1. About Afrobook UK

Afrobook UK is a cultural booking and ticketing platform operated by Dynamic Resonance, registered in England and Wales. We connect clients with African and Caribbean performers, event organisers and restaurants across the UK.

By accessing or using Afrobook UK you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

2. User Accounts

  • You must be 18 or over to create an account
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
  • You must provide accurate and truthful information at all times
  • Afrobook UK reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms
  • One account per person โ€” multiple accounts are not permitted

3. Booking & Payments

  • All bookings must be made through the Afrobook UK platform
  • A booking is only confirmed when payment has been received and a confirmation email sent
  • Payments are processed securely via Stripe โ€” we do not store card details
  • All prices are in British Pounds (GBP) inclusive of platform fees
  • New clients receive 10% off their first confirmed performer booking automatically

4. Off-Platform Booking Policy

Once a client and performer or restaurant have connected through Afrobook UK, all future bookings must remain on the platform permanently.

โš ๏ธ Penalty for off-platform bookings: Permanent ban from Afrobook UK ยท ยฃ2,000 penalty fee invoiced immediately ยท Removal of all profile data ยท Legal action may be pursued to recover platform losses. This applies to both parties.

5. Platform Fees

  • Afrobook UK charges a booking fee on all ticket purchases โ€” displayed at checkout
  • Performer bookings include a platform commission โ€” agreed at listing stage
  • There is no monthly subscription fee for basic listings
  • All fees are non-refundable unless stated otherwise

6. Intellectual Property

  • All content on Afrobook UK โ€” including logos, designs and copy โ€” belongs to Dynamic Resonance
  • Performers and restaurants retain ownership of their own uploaded content
  • By uploading content you grant Afrobook UK a licence to display it on the platform
  • You may not copy or reproduce any part of this platform without written permission

7. Limitation of Liability

Afrobook UK acts as a booking intermediary. We are not responsible for:

  • Quality of performances, food or services provided by listed parties
  • Event cancellations beyond our control (force majeure)
  • Losses arising from disputes between clients and performers/restaurants

Our total liability shall not exceed the total fees paid by that user in the preceding 12 months.

8. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Ticket Policy

Everything you need to know about buying, using and refunding tickets on Afrobook UK.

For Customers

1. Ticket Purchases

  • Ticket purchases are final and non-refundable unless an event is cancelled, rescheduled or significantly altered
  • You will receive a confirmation email with your QR code ticket immediately after purchase
  • Your ticket is also accessible via your Afrobook UK account at any time
  • Each ticket has a unique QR code โ€” do not share your QR code with others
  • Tickets may not be resold or transferred without written consent from the organiser
For Customers

2. Refund Policy

  • Event cancelled by organiser: Full refund processed within 5-10 working days
  • Event postponed: Your ticket transfers automatically to the new date
  • Rescheduled event: A minimum 14-day refund window is provided if you cannot attend the new date
  • Significant changes (venue, date, lineup): You are entitled to a full refund
  • Change of mind: Tickets are non-refundable

For Customers

3. Entry & Age Requirements

  • You may be required to show valid photo ID matching the name on your ticket
  • Events marked 18+ require proof of age โ€” no exceptions
  • Afrobook UK is not responsible if you are refused entry due to failure to meet age or ID requirements
  • Refunds will not be issued for refused entry due to age or ID issues
  • Ticket holders must comply with all venue rules and conditions
For Customers

4. Invalid or Lost Tickets

  • Duplicate or fraudulent tickets will be refused entry
  • If your QR code is scanned by someone else first, you may be refused entry โ€” protect your QR code
  • Lost tickets can be retrieved from your account at afrobook.co.uk/account.html
  • Afrobook UK is not liable for lost or stolen tickets
All Users

5. Force Majeure

If an event is cancelled due to circumstances beyond the organiser's control โ€” including but not limited to extreme weather, venue closure, government restrictions, acts of terrorism or national emergencies โ€” Afrobook UK and the organiser will not be held liable for consequential losses. Refunds will be processed in line with the organiser's policy.

Performer Terms

Responsibilities and obligations for all performers listed on Afrobook UK.

For Performers

1. Listing Requirements

  • All performer profiles must be accurate and truthful โ€” no misleading descriptions or photos
  • You must provide at least one video link demonstrating your performance
  • Profiles are reviewed and approved by the Afrobook UK team before going live
  • Afrobook UK reserves the right to reject or remove any listing at its discretion
  • You must notify Afrobook UK of any changes to your act, pricing or availability within 48 hours
For Performers

2. Performance Standards

  • You must arrive at the venue at the agreed time โ€” at least 30 minutes before your performance
  • You are responsible for bringing all equipment required for your act unless otherwise agreed
  • You must perform the act as described in your profile and booking agreement
  • Professional behaviour is required at all times โ€” towards clients, venue staff and other performers
  • Offensive, discriminatory or inappropriate content is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate removal
  • You must be sober and fit to perform โ€” intoxication during performance is grounds for removal

3. Cancellation Policy

  • Performer cancels any time: Full refund to client PLUS 50% of deposit paid as penalty to the client
  • Cancellations must be submitted in writing to bookings@afrobook.co.uk immediately
  • Repeated cancellations may result in permanent removal from the platform

โš ๏ธ Performer cancellations are taken very seriously. The 50% deposit penalty is applied automatically to protect clients who have made arrangements based on your booking.

For Performers

4. Platform Commission & Fees

  • Afrobook UK charges a platform commission on all confirmed bookings โ€” agreed at listing stage
  • New client bookings include a 10% first-booking discount โ€” this is absorbed by the platform, not deducted from your fee
  • Payments are released to you after the event has taken place and no disputes are raised
  • Platform fees are non-refundable once a booking is confirmed
For Performers

5. Off-Platform Bookings

You must never accept a booking directly from a client who found you through Afrobook UK.

โš ๏ธ Penalty: ยฃ2,000 + permanent ban. Any off-platform booking discovered between an Afrobook-connected client and performer will result in an immediate ยฃ2,000 penalty invoice, permanent removal from the platform and potential legal action.

For Performers

6. Insurance & Legal Compliance

  • You are responsible for holding appropriate public liability insurance for your performances
  • You must comply with all relevant UK laws including licensing, noise regulations and health & safety
  • Any permits or licences required for your act are your responsibility to obtain
  • Afrobook UK is not liable for any incidents arising from your performance
For Performers

7. Photography & Media

  • By listing on Afrobook UK you consent to being photographed or filmed at events for promotional purposes
  • Afrobook UK may use your performance footage for platform marketing with your prior consent
  • You retain full ownership of your uploaded content

Restaurant Terms

Responsibilities and obligations for all restaurants and food businesses listed on Afrobook UK.

For Restaurants

1. Listing Requirements

  • All restaurant information must be accurate โ€” name, address, cuisine type, opening hours and pricing
  • You must hold a valid Food Business Registration with your local authority
  • Food Hygiene Rating must be 3 stars or above to be listed on the platform
  • Any changes to address, hours or contact details must be updated within 48 hours
  • Listings are reviewed and approved by Afrobook UK before going live
For Restaurants

2. Food Safety & Standards

  • You must comply with all UK food safety laws including the Food Safety Act 1990
  • Allergen information must be accurate and provided to customers on request
  • You are solely responsible for the quality and safety of food served
  • Afrobook UK is not liable for any food safety incidents or allergic reactions
  • Health & Safety inspections and compliance are entirely your responsibility

โš ๏ธ Any restaurant found to have below-standard food hygiene ratings may be immediately removed from the platform.

For Restaurants

3. Booking Obligations

  • You must respond to booking enquiries within 24 hours
  • Confirmed bookings must be honoured โ€” cancelling a confirmed booking without valid reason may result in removal
  • You must provide accurate capacity information to avoid overbooking
  • No-show customers: you may retain any deposit paid per your stated policy
  • Restaurant no-shows: full refund to customer plus a platform review of your listing
For Restaurants

4. Off-Platform Bookings

You must never accept a booking directly from a customer who found you through Afrobook UK.

5. Listing Fees

  • Basic restaurant listing on Afrobook UK is currently free
  • Afrobook UK reserves the right to introduce listing fees in the future with 30 days notice
  • Premium featured listing options may be available โ€” charges will be communicated in advance
For Restaurants

6. Legal Compliance

  • You must hold all necessary licences including premises licence where applicable
  • Compliance with the Equality Act 2010 โ€” no discrimination of customers
  • GDPR compliance for any customer data you collect independently
  • Public liability insurance is strongly recommended

Organiser Terms

Responsibilities and obligations for all event organisers using Afrobook UK.

1. Event Listings

  • All event details must be accurate โ€” title, date, time, venue, capacity and ticket prices
  • Events must comply with all applicable UK laws including licensing and venue regulations
  • You must hold a valid premises licence or event licence where required
  • Age restrictions must be accurately declared and enforced at the door
  • Afrobook UK reviews all events before approving them to go live
  • Misleading event descriptions may result in immediate removal and refunds to buyers
For Organisers

2. Ticket Sales & Capacity

  • You must set an accurate venue capacity โ€” overselling is a serious breach of these terms
  • Afrobook UK charges a booking fee per ticket โ€” this is added to the ticket price at checkout
  • Complimentary tickets may be issued via the organiser dashboard โ€” these bypass payment
  • You are responsible for all door management and ticket verification at your event
For Organisers

3. Cancellation & Refund Obligations

  • Event cancellation: You must authorise full refunds to all ticket buyers immediately
  • Date or venue change: You must notify all ticket holders immediately through the platform and provide a minimum 14-day refund window
  • Significant lineup change: Ticket holders must be notified within 24 hours
  • Platform service fees may still apply to you as the seller depending on your tier

โš ๏ธ Failure to issue refunds for a cancelled event may result in your account being suspended and the refunds being processed on your behalf.

For Organisers

4. Payouts

  • Ticket revenue is held by Afrobook UK until after the event has taken place
  • Payouts are processed within 5-7 working days after the event
  • Platform fees are deducted before payout
  • Payouts are subject to no outstanding disputes or refund claims
For Organisers

5. Attendee Data

  • Attendee data (names and emails) provided via the platform may only be used for this specific event
  • You may not add attendees to third-party marketing lists without their explicit consent
  • You must handle all attendee data in compliance with UK GDPR
  • Afrobook UK retains ownership of all platform data
For Organisers

6. Event Conduct & Safety

  • You are responsible for the safety of all attendees at your event
  • Adequate security must be in place for events over 100 attendees
  • You must comply with venue capacity limits at all times
  • Events promoting illegal activity, hate speech or discrimination are strictly prohibited
  • Public liability insurance is required for all events over 50 attendees
